Our first, hopefully annual, pollinator garden and compost tour was wonderful. From the weather, gardens, hosts, desserts and of course participants.....just a grand event!! There was no particular order to the tour, just self-guided. Joe McCabe introduced everyone to his composting. David and Carissa Lick shared their pollinator-friendly flowers. At the Mike and Cheri Anderson yard, everyone was surprised with wine samples from the grapes they grow and wine they make. They also served all kinds of appetizers. All this while surrounded by all kinds of beautiful flowers. Meadowlark Prairies Outdoor Lab was also part of the tour but didn't encourage everyone to go there. The bugs were really brutal! I know, as I'm there all the time. Everyone ended up their tour with a stop at the community building for "Bee Sting Cake" and "Burndt Honey Buttercream Cake", with an edible flower garnish. How fun is that! Lemonade and coffee was also served. I took the opportunity to set up a Meadowlark Prairies display, with two videos I took of the monarch butterfly life cycle. We have two very nice brochures that we gave to everyone: one an overview of what you'll see at Meadowlark; the other exclusively, "Birds Of Meadowlark".
